Helping their team to its winningest season overall since 2006 and its winningest Ivy season since 2008, four members of the Princeton softball team were recognized with All-Ivy League honors, the league office announced.

Alex Peyton, Maddie Cousens, Alyssa Schmidt and Nikki Chu were all second-team honorees, while Peyton was also an honorable mention at first base alongside her second-team pitching honor.

Peyton was also recognized with a place on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association first-team All-Mid-Atlantic as a utility player/pitcher. Those teams can be found here.

Chu, a senior, was recognized as a utility player. In Ivy games, Chu was a .313 hitter overall as one of six Tigers to get at least 20 hits in league play. She started all 20 Ivy games, one of six Princeton players to do so. Despite playing the hot corner at third base, she made only one error in Ivy games. Overall, Chu hit .263 in 42 games played. It’s her first career All-Ivy honor.

Cousens, a junior, is the second-team all-league catcher. She was Princeton’s leading hitter for average in conference play, batting at a .386 clip including a team-best four doubles against Ivy foes. Overall, Cousens was a .330 hitter, playing in 35 games. The All-Ivy league honor is the first in Cousens’ career.

Peyton, a senior, was a dual threat for the Tigers, throwing 72 of the team’s 145 innings in Ivy play, accruing a 5-5 record with a team-best 1.85 ERA. Overall, Peyton had the team’s lowest ERA as well, compiling an 8-8 record with a 2.09 ERA in a team-high 120 2/3 innings. At the plate, Peyton was a .333 hitter against the Ivies, hitting seven of her team-best 11 overall home runs against conference opponents. Her 17 RBIs in Ivy games and 36 runs driven in overall were both team-bests. She was an All-Ivy honorable mention in 2011 and 2012.

Schmidt, a sophomore shortstop, hit .351 in Ivy play and .351 overall. Against Ivy foes, Schmidt’s 23 hits were second-most on the team, as were her 15 RBIs and three home runs. Overall, her 46 hits were third on the team, as were her eight doubles and 24 RBIs. It’s the first All-Ivy League selection for Schmidt.

Princeton finished the season with a record of 27-19 overall and 12-8 in the Ivy League under first-year head coach Lisa Sweeney, best since the team went 34-19 in 2006 and 18-2 in the Ivy in 2008.
