Box Score: Game One
Box Score: Game Two

The Princeton baseball team ended its hopes of advancing to the Ivy League Championship Series, suffering a sweep to Cornell Friday at Clarke Field. The Big Red defeated the Tigers 4-2 to open the series and managed to cling to a one-run advantage to hand Princeton a 2-1 loss to conclude the afternoon.

Turning Point of the Game: Game one starter Zak Hermans put together a solid overall performance, aside from a tough third frame. The inning opened with a leadoff homer and Cornell carried that momentum to a 4-0 lead off four hits. Princeton was unable to find the offensive burst it needed to tie things up or take the lead, including not capitalizing on a bases loaded sixth inning.

The latter game saw starter Kevin Link retire the first 12 batters, setting the tone for the Tigers early on. During that span the offense did not provide Link with any run support and was limited to a pair of base runners and one hit.

Cornell broke up the draw, scoring an unearned run in the fifth and adding the game-winner in the sixth. Again Princeton’s offense did not have much an answer, only finding home plate once in the outing.

Player/Pitcher of the Game: Despite suffering the loss, Kevin Link had one of his best performances of the year in game two. He tossed a complete game, striking out six and scattering four hits in 32 batters faced. He had six 1-2-3 innings, including retiring the side over the first four frames.

Batter of the Game: Mike Ford led the offense, tallying four hits, a run, an RBI and a walk over two starts at first base. In game one he went 3-for-4, including an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the seventh. The RBI marked his 34th of the year, a team-high, as he improved his season batting average to .309 (43-for-139) on the year for third-best on the team.

On Deck: Princeton (12-28, 9-9) concludes the year with a final doubleheader at Cornell (26-15, 11-7 Ivy) on Sunday, Apr. 26. First pitch is set for 12 noon.
