No. 11 Women’s Water Polo Downs CSUEB, Edged by No. 14 LMU

The No. 11 Princeton women’s water polo team concluded the LMU Invite going 3-1. They kicked off Sunday with a 12-7 victory over Cal State East Bay, before being outlasted by No. 14 Loyola Marymount 7-5.

It took until the second quarter for Princeton to take control and limit Cal State East Bay from connecting on shots. Down 4-2, the Tigers responded with a 5-1 run to go up for good, 7-5, at halftime. 

Los Angeles native Camille Hooks scored a team-high four goals and Diana Murphy and Brittany Zwirner added a pair of their own. 

Taylor Dunstan also notched a goal and dished three assists, while Sarana Soroka and Pippa Temple each made three steals apiece. In goal, Ashleigh Johnson made 11 saves and two steals.

Johnson held the Pioneers’ scoreless in the third quarter, as the Tigers rode a second half 5-2 run to earn the five-goal victory.

No. 14 Loyola Marymount employed a third quarter three-goal rally to slip past the Tigers, 7-5.

Princeton’s offense was unable to connect on shots, only connecting on five of 23 attempts. 

Katie Rigler had a team-best two goals, both came in the second half, while Dunstan, Hooks and Temple each had second quarter scores. 

LMU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first quarter, before the Tigers knotted things up 3-3 at the break. Princeton’s offensive surge was not sustained as the Lions closed things out on a 4-2 run. 

Princeton returns home (17-5, 2-0 Southern) for a final conference weekend versus Mercyhurst, Harvard and Bucknell from Apr. 6-7.
