LOWELL, Mass. (11/24/12) - It was two minutes that Princeton will think about and wish they could get back. UMass Lowell scored three goals in the final 1:55 of the second period breaking a scoreless deadlock to go on to win 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 24 at the Tsongas Center.

Up until that point it had been a back-and-forth affair with solid chances by both offenses as both netminders kept the clean sheet.

Terrence Wallin and Scott Wilson teamed up on a give-and-go to break the deadlock at 18:05. Michael Colantone and Derek Arnold did the same just 32 seconds later as Lowell took a 2-0 lead in the second period

A goal by Joseph Pendenza at 19:27 went under video review as Princeton netminder Mike Condon was furious with the call, saying the whistle should have been blown before Pendenza stole the puck and went top shelf. Josh Holmstrom had taken a shot and it looked as though Condon was kneeling on the puck before it was suddenly on Pendenza's stick.

Princeton's Aaron Kesselman would prevent the shutout at 14:51 in the third period.  Junior captain Jack Berger dug the puck out of the defensive corner and sent it up along the boards to senior Will MacDonald. MacDonald raced down and fed Kesselman in the slot who fired a goal over the shoulder of goalie Conor Hellebuyck.

With 2:14 remaining, Princeton called a timeout and pulled Condon for the extra attacker. Senior Eric Meland had two shots go wide, juniors Andrew Calof and Jeremy Goodwin had shots wide before senior Rob Kleebaum received a penalty with 20.9 seconds left forcing Condon back to the goal and time expired.

Princeton's penalty kill was 3 for 3 on the afternoon. On the second PK the Tigers were either controlling the puck or clearing it, and didn't allow Lowell to set anything up. Goodwin and Calof had a 2x1 shorthanded chance but couldn't get a shot off with a tangle up in front of the goal. Goodwin had also had a shot hit the crossbar midway through the period, and junior Andrew Ammon had one ring off the pipe two minutes later. The Tigers finished the weekend 9 for 9 on the PK.

Condon finished the game with a season-high 33 saves. He had a huge stop, winning a 1x1 battle with Arnold midway through the third. He splayed out on his stomach and turned the puck aside with his stick. Another big save from Condon came in the second when he kneeled on a shot after the goal had been open on the right side.

Freshman Hellebuyck, a Winnipeg draftee, made 22 saves in his second start for Lowell. The River Hawks are now 3-5-1 overall.

Princeton falls to 3-4-1 overall and travels to Rensselaer and Union next weekend, Nov. 30 & Dec. 1.
