HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Hofstra defeated the Princeton softball team 9-0 in a run-rule shortened five innings Tuesday afternoon on Long Island in the Tigers' final non-league contest.

Princeton will return home to the Class of 1895 Field to face Cornell for doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

With the defeat, the Tigers fell to 14-28 on the year while Hofstra improved to 29-13.

The Pride threw ace Olivia Galati (22-5), and the two-time Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year was every bit of that against Princeton. Galati limited the Tigers to one hit, an infield single legged out by the swift Nicole Ontiveros to lead off the fourth. Princeton reached the next batter, Maddie Cousens, on an error at second base, but those were the only baserunners the Tigers mustered.

Hofstra jumped on Princeton starter Alex Peyton (6-12) early, as the first five batters got hits. Peyton left at that point with the Tigers trailing 3-0, and the Pride widened its lead to 8-0 on a hit batter and four more hits before reliever Liza Kuhn got out of the inning.

Kuhn got through the second inning in order and gave up just a single in the third before a walk, a single and an error led to an unearned run, Hofstra's last, in the fourth.

Princeton will enter the weekend 8-8 in the Ivy South, three games back of divisional co-leaders Cornell and Penn.
