BOX SCORE

Despite more kills, digs, points and a better hitting percentage, the Princeton men's volleyball missed its first of two opportunities to clinch a Top 3 seed in the EIVA postseason. George Mason won the key late points in three of four sets to clinch a 3-1 home victory over the Tigers.

Princeton, which has already clinched a berth in the EIVA postseason (Apr. 24-26), now faces a must-win situation next Friday night in a home rematch against George Mason if it hopes to avoid a first-round showdown with Penn State.

At minimum, George Mason would be playing for the same opportunity, as it would jump Princeton into the third seed with a win. However, if Saint Francis upsets Penn State Saturday afternoon, Mason may need the victory simply to make the postseason.

While the Tigers lost, they showed the type of offense that guided them into the postseason earlier in the season. Sophomore Devin Stearns recorded 17 kills with only two errors (.536), while the reigning first-team All-EIVA duo of Cody Kessel and Pat Schwagler combined for 33 kills and 13 digs in the loss.

Princeton also got strong play from its freshmen, as they neared their first trip to the EIVA playoffs. Middle Junior Oboh had seven kills without an error (.636), while setter Chris Kennedy made his return from injury to record 55 assists and 11 digs. Junior Tony Ensbury led the defense with 14 digs.
