The Princeton women's soccer team is spending its spring break in Paris. Members of the team will send a blog entry each day to be posted on the women's soccer page at GoPrincetonTigers.com.
Day 5 by junior Lauren Lazo
Day five proved to be much more laid back than the previous four days. After being on the go nonstop for four days we finally got to sleep in. Not only that but everyone was incredibly excited to see Sarah [Mendenhall] and Kathy [Jones] in the hotel for breakfast. They finally made in to Paris, and we couldn’t be happier. Breakfast in the hotel does not close until 10:30, and we were not leaving for the day’s excursion until noon. So, the team (not wanting to miss out on food) woke up at as late as possible to catch breakfast and then each headed back up to the rooms in order to log another hour of sleep.
At noon the team reconvened to head to Versailles. It was a new experience, as we had to take the metro and a train to reach our destination. In dire need for coffee, upon arrival the team spotted a Starbucks and all headed to indulge in an overpriced latte. With coffee in had, the team walked to the glamorous gold gates of Versailles. The grandeur and the beauty of the palace is truly breathtaking. More interested in taking pictures than actually going inside, the team took about an hour to make sure everyone had the perfect selfie outside the gates. The lavishness of the gates was only the beginning. Inside the palace, the walls were covered in marble, gold, and paintings in every single room and hallway. The beauty in the detail of every square inch can simply not be described in words.
However, the exquisiteness doesn’t end inside the palace. Outside, the gardens are laden with grand fountains, pools, and more trees than you can ever imagine. The grounds are so incredibly large that in order to see them all, a small trolley runs through the gardens. The team enjoyed taking a plethora of pictures and videos as the scenery was unlike anything we had ever seen before. We spent many hours at the Palace and only saw one floor on one wing, as well as a handful of the gardens.
After a long day at Versailles, a majority of the team fell asleep on the train ride back to Paris. Upon returning to the hotel, everyone took an hour nap to rejuvenate. The team was given money for dinner and was allowed to go wherever they wanted. Much of the team didn’t stray too far from the hotel and enjoyed a delicious dinner accompanied by fantastic conversation. We are so grateful and blessed to have experienced yet another fantastic day in Paris and look forward to what tomorrow has in store. We will be playing PSG ladies tomorrow afternoon and are incredibly excited to be playing one of the top women’s clubs in the world.
