Box Score

Top-ranked Minnesota completed a two-game sweep of the Princeton women's hockey team Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis as the Gophers defeated the Tigers 9-1.

Princeton fell to 5-6-2 overall while the Gophers, who had a 62-game winning streak snapped by North Dakota on Nov. 18, improved to 17-1-0.

Minnesota rolled up a 5-0 lead on Princeton before Brianna Leahy scored for the Tigers with more than seven minutes to go in the second period. The Gophers scored the last four in completing the weekend sweep.

Kimberly Newell played the first two-plus periods in goal for Princeton and left with a 7-1 deficit, while Ashley Holt closed out the final 12-plus minutes.

The Tigers will hit the ice again when they return to ECAC play Friday at Baker Rink against Rensselaer at 4 p.m. before hosting Union on a Skate with the Tigers afternoon Saturday at 4. Princeton is in the middle of the pack in the ECAC, entering next weekend at 4-4-1 in conference play with nine points, six off the pace set by Harvard atop the table.
