Hoy's Helper on Solo Among Women's Soccer Summer News Items
Jen Hoy '13 and the Chicago Red Stars beat the Seattle Reign earlier this month in National Women's Soccer League play, and Hoy helped put one by U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo to further it along.
She was one of two Tigers to score or assist on a goal against Solo on the week.
Hoy assisted on a 71st-minute goal scored by teammate Inka Grings in a 3-1 win over Seattle on Aug. 3, starting the final month of play in the league's inaugural season. Chicago will cap the regular season against Kansas City on Aug. 18.

Fellow alumna Diana Matheson '08 is also enjoying success in the NWSL, having been named the league's Player of the Week with the Washington Spirit on Aug. 13. She had an assist on the game-winning goal on Aug. 7 against Chicago and scored the only goal of the game against Solo and Seattle on Aug. 10. Below, Matheson and assistant coach Esmeralda Negron '05, caught up when the Spirit came to Sky Blue FC in New Jersey on Aug. 3. Washington's regular season will also come to a close on Aug. 18 when it hosts Sky Blue.
Matheson and Negron helped Princeton to the 2004 NCAA College Cup semifinal, an achievement that will be recognized along with the men's 1993 NCAA semifinal team on Oct. 19 around the doubleheader against Columbia. The women will start the day at 1 p.m. with the men following at 4 p.m.
Diane Metcalf-Leggette, who formed an organization called Goals Beyond the Net to help Haiti through soccer, headed down to the Caribbean nation recently with teammates Emily Sura, Lynessa McGee and Gabriella Guzman (photos below). The current Tigers are sponsoring the children in the photo on the left to attend school in the upcoming year.
Top Drawer Soccer previewed the Ivy League earlier this month, with Princeton as the defending champion. The Tigers will get the season underway on Sept. 6 at home against Richmond, while the first Ivy League match will take place Sept. 28 at Roberts Stadium against Yale.
