PRINCETON, N.J. (1/6/13) - Junior Tom Hopkins won three
events as the Princeton men's track team hosted Navy in a dual meet at Jadwin
Gym on Sunday, Jan. 6.
Hopkins won the long jump as the only jumper to clear 7
meters, reaching 7.39 (24-3). He then won the 400 at 48.72 and the 200 at
22.14.
In the field events, sophomore Scott Rushton won the shot
put. He was the only thrower to reach 15 meters as he hit 15.67 (51-5). Junior Omar Jarrett won the high jump with a PR of 2.07
(6-9.5), reaching the mark on his second attempt. He was the only jumper to
clear two meters.
Princeton went 1-2-3 in the 60-meter dash. Freshman John Hill bolted to a 6.91 with freshman Dre Nelson second at 7.03 and sophomore
Tumi Akinlawon at 7.05.
Junior Michael Williams picked up two wins, the first in the
800. Williams clocked at 1:54.91 in the 800 and won the distance medley relay
along with sophomore Eddie Owens, senior Michael Palmisano and freshman Chris
Crawford. The relay ran 10:14.29, nearly eight seconds faster than Navy.
Rounding out the winners was sophomore Bradley Paternostro
in the 1000. He clocked a 2:30.12 while freshman Brian Poierier was the
runner-up at 2:32.74.
Runners-up included sophomore Daniel McCord in the 200 at
22.36, senior Richard Sheldon in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.30, junior Tom Scott
in the 500 at 1:07.01 and freshman Brett Kelly in the 3000 in 8:29.90.
Sophomore Stephen Soerens was second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.79
(45-3) and took third in the long jump at 6.88 (22-7).
Navy won the dual meet 91-89.
