Dartmouth Spoils Home Opener for Women's Hockey

Princeton, N.J. (10/26/12) - The Dartmouth women's hockey team spoiled Princeton's home opener, taking a 3-1 game in ECAC hockey action on Friday, Oct. 26 at Hobey Baker Rink. Junior Lindsay Holdcroft was a force in goal for the Big Green allowing just one and stopping 22.

Shots were in Dartmouth's favor in the first period 11-3, setting the tone for the remainder of the game. Of Dartmouth's 11 shots, seven of them came on power play, as Princeton picked up five penalties in the first frame.

Karlee Odland put the Big Green on the board at 5:31 with her first goal of the season.

Princeton would triple its shots on goal to nine over Dartmouth's eight shots during the second period. However, Dartmouth senior Reagan Fischer gave her team a two-goal cushion midway through the second. 

Senior Alex Kinney broke through for the Tigers at 18:08 of the second, redirecting a shot from junior Rosa Alleva from the point. The wind was taken out of the Tigers' sail though when Lindsey Allen scored one for the Big Green less than a minute later.

Two minutes into the final frame, Princeton had a two-man advantage over the Big Green. Holdcroft denied the Tigers, and did it again at the end of the period when Princeton had another 5x3. Princeton pulled goalie Kimberly Newell with 2:58 to go in the game to give itself a 6x3 edge. The Tigers put five shots on goal during those last few minutes, but Holdcroft was unpenetrable. Newell finished the game with 28 stops for Princeton.

The Tigers host No. 9 Harvard tomorrow afternoon at 4PM at Hobey Baker Rink.
