In their final home games of the regular season, the No. 17
Princeton men's water polo team went 2-0 to improve 12-10, 5-3 Southern on the
year. The Tigers opened the day with an 18-9 win over Iona, before handing
conference rival George Washington a 13-6 defeat.
Matt Weber led the offense with 10 goals, while adding two
steals and an assist on the day. Drew Hoffenberg followed scoring six goals,
three in each game, and tallying five steals and four assists.
Over seven quarters of work, goalie Alex Gow tallied 16
saves, two steals and an assist. Both Brendan Byrne and Tyler Amina saw minutes
off the bench in goal, combining for eight saves.
Versus Iona, Princeton opened up the game with an 11-2 first
half run, easily holding off the Gael offense.
As the defense worked to not let up in the second half, as
the Tiger attack continued to add to its growing lead. Princeton remained in
control over the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Gaels 8-7.
Both Sam Butler and Bradley Wachtell tallied four assists versus the Gaels, with Butler also adding four steals.
Princeton maintained its momentum
in game two versus George Washington, en route to its second win over the
Colonials this season.
After an even 2-2 first quarter, the Tigers took off on a
7-2 run over the second and third quarters to take control for good. In the
fourth, Princeton outscored GWU 4-2 to seal the victory.
The Tigers travel next to New Haven, Conn. for the Ivy League
Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28. Princeton plays at 11:30 a.m. versus an
opponent to be determined.
