In another back and forth battle at Princeton Stadium, the
Tiger sprint football team came up on the losing end of a 21-14 game versus
Franklin Pierce Friday evening. Princeton (0-5) managed to keep the game within
range throughout the 60-minute battle, but was unable to find the momentum
surge to push past the visiting Ravens (1-2).
FPU opened up the contest with an 11-play 43-yard drive to
take a 6-0 lead with 14:08 remaining in the first quarter.
Princeton then responded with a 1:46 three-play drive for 40
yards to take a slight lead, 7-6. Jaison Zachariah connected with Nicolas Lulli
for an 11-yard touchdown and Andrew Bierschenk's extra point was good.
The Tigers lead would be halted by Michael Holdridge
eight-yard pass to Tyler Matthews. Holdridge converted Franklin Pierce's
two-point conversion attempt to make it a 14-7 ball game with 4:18 remaining
before halftime.
In the third quarter, Princeton would bring the ball into
the red zone, but turned it over on a fumble. Two plays later, the Tigers' John
Wolfe responded by forcing a fumble in the end zone to even the score 14-14
with 8:09 left.
As the third quarter drew to an end, a Princeton botched a
punt and a pass attempt resulted in a FPU pick-six with 1:48 to go, lifting the
Ravens to a 21-14 lead.
The Tigers were unable to find the end zone again before the
end of regulation.
Ross Cadman led the Tigers with 11 tackles and caught six
passes for 72 yards.
Quarterbacks Joe Bush and Zachariah combined for 189 yards
in the air, with Bush leading the way going 10-for-19 with 100 yards.
Princeton will now hit the road for its final two games,
beginning at Army on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in West Point, N.Y.
