Drew Hoffenberg had one of the best seasons for a freshman in Princeton men's water polo history. Hoffenberg led the team with 47 goals, 36 assists, 41 drawn ejections and 11 blocks. Hewas a second-team All-South player in the regular season but emerged as a team leader in the postseason on his way to being named the Most Valuable Player of the Eastern Tournament, the event's top rookie and earning first-team All-Eastern honors. He capped off a standout freshman campaign by earning AWPCA All-America Honorable Mention honors.

Hoffenberg opened the season with a goal, assist and steal in a win over Santa Clara and followed that up with a four assist-three steal game against Harvard. The rookie added two goals in a win over Brown and scored twice more in wins over Fordham and Johns Hopkins. Hoffenberg scored a season-high five goals in a win over Johns Hopkins in the Soutehrn quarterfinals and had four goals twice: first in the Eastern semifinals against St. Francis and then in the NCAA third-place game against UC San Diego. He also had five three-goal games, getting hat tricks against Hopkins, Navy (three times) and George Washington. Hoffenberg recorded a season-high four steals in the St. Francis win at Easterns and also drew four ejections in the game. Hoffenberg ended the season with a nod on the NCAA All-Tournament Second Team after scorinf four goals on seven shots in the two games. He also had two assists, three steals and three drawn ejections in the tournament.

Hoffenberg comes to Princeton from San Diego where he attended The Bishop's School and served as water polo and swim team captain for the past two years. He led Bishops to CIF titles in 2008 and 2010 and led his team in goals, steals and assists in each of the past two seasons. Hoffenberg was a second-team All-San Diego CIF Section in 2008 and a first-team All San Diego CIF Section in 2009 and 2010. Hoffenberg was also the 2010 Western Conference Player of the Year and a second-team High School All-America. Hoffenberg also led his club team, San Diego Shores, to the Junior Olympic Bronze medal in 2010 and was picked as a Junior Olympic first-team All-America. He is a USA Water Polo Academic All-America with Outstanding Achievement. He was also a member of the US Junior National Team in 2008 and 2009.
