Postgame: WBB at Dartmouth - 2/21/14

Box Score

Double figure scoring runs and controlling the glass lifted the Princeton women’s basketball team to a dominating 87-46 victory over Dartmouth Friday night in Hanover, N.H. The win improves the Tigers to 16-6, 7-1 Ivy and drops the Big Green to 3-20, 0-9 Ivy.

Riding its six-game winning streak, Princeton heads to Harvard (17-6, 7-2) for a 6 p.m. meeting on Saturday. The Crimson are coming off a 63-50 loss to Penn to put the Tigers and Quakers in a tie for first place in the Ivy League.

In a game that saw contributions and points from every active player, it was sophomore Annie Tarakchian’s career and game-high 14 points that paced the effort. She went 6-of-7 from the field and recorded a game-high seven rebounds.

Tarakchian led a quartet of Tigers in double figures, as Kristen Helmstetter added 13 points and six boards, Blake Dietrick made 12 points and Taylor Williams dumped in 10 points in her third straight start.

Princeton labored on offense early, seeing some hesitation and turnovers disrupt its ability establish fluid tempo. As the Tigers worked through their ebbs and flows, dominance on the glass ignited things for the Orange and Black. Princeton fed off its solid defensive effort and surged to a 16-4 run to go up 31-14 at 3:08.

The Tigers outrebounded the Big Green 24-8 over the opening half, limiting Dartmouth to only two second chance points on one offensive board.

After closing out the first half leading 39-21 and on a 4-0 run, the Tigers pounced to open the second period and extended their run to 21-2 to establish a 56-23 advantage at 14:56.

From there Dartmouth had no answer to Princeton’s all-around dominance and the Tigers saw their lead swell as high as 44.

The Tigers finished holding a 39-20 rebounding margin, allowing the Big Green only five offensive boards and four second chance points.

Princeton finished shooting 60.4 percent (32-for-53) from the field to Dartmouth’s 38.3 (18-for-47). The Tigers also forced 16 Big Green turnovers and converted them into 20 points.

Postgame Notes: Sophomore Taylor Williams made her third straight start … Annie Tarakchian scored a career-high 14 points … Princeton is now 43-29 all-time versus Dartmouth and 10-4 under seventh season head coach Courtney Banghart.
