Three Wins Highlight New Year's Invite for Women's Track & Field

PRINCETON, N.J. (12/7/13) - Three Princeton Tigers won their respective events as the Princeton women’s track & field team opened the 2013-14 indoor season hosting the New Year’s Invitational at Jadwin Gym on Saturday, Dec. 7.

Sophomore Julia Ratcliffe continued her success in the throws with a win in the weight throw. She threw to 19.52 (64-00.50) on her final attempt of the day. Five of Ratcliffe’s six throws were over 16 meters.

Senior Imani Oliver captured her first win of the season in the triple jump. An All-America in the event, Oliver was the only jumper to reach 12 meters and did so on her first attempt of the season, at 12.35 (40-6.25).

Freshman Allison Harris proved her talents instantly in the pole vault. She cleared 3.50 (11-5.75) on her first attempt at that height. Classmate Lauren Santi was fourth at 3.30 (10-10) and senior Sara Rubin hit a personal best of 3.10 (10-2). 

Harris was also third in the 60-meter hurdles. Princeton had four hurdles make the finals with Teju Adewole taking second at 9.02, followed by Harris at 9.03. Sophomore Kerry Krause PR’ed and senior Beth McKenna also competed.

Junior Joanna Anyanwu reached the finals of the 60 and then clocked a PR of 7.88 in the finals to take sixth.

Senior Kacie O’Neil crushed her previous best time in the 1000 by nearly seven seconds. She finished third in the 1000 at 2:58.84. She was one of just three that ran in under three minutes. Sophomore Michelle Tracy was fifth at 3:09.78.

Two Tigers claimed top-five finishes in the 600 as junior Kim Mackay was third at 1:35.99 and junior Emily Broyles was fifth at 1:36.95.

Mackay made up the second leg of the 4x400 relay that placed third. Junior Cecilia Barowski, senior Carrie Vuong and junior Emily Easton made up the rest of the relay that clocked a 3:58.36

Sophomores Inka Busack and Taylor Morgan tied each other for second place in the high jump. Each cleared 1.65 (5-5). Senior Lily Miller claimed a third-pace finish in the long jump. She leapt to 5.45 (17-10.75) in her only counted jump of the meet.

Princeton will continue training before its next meet on Friday, Jan. 10. The Tigers hosts Rutgers, St. John’s and St. Joseph’s in a quad meet.
