ITHACA, N.Y. (11/1/13) - The Princeton men's hockey team couldn't recover from a four-goal deficit as the Tigers fell 4-2 to Cornell in the ECAC Hockey league opener on Friday, Nov. 1 at Lynah Rink.

Cornell capitalized on its first power-play opportunity as John McCarron scored at 3:48. Brian Ferlin skated into the zone on the right side and passed to Joel Lowry. Lowry's pass was corraled by McCarron and went glove side for the goal.

The Big Red grabbed a 3-0 lead early in the second period with two goals in 56 seconds as Christian Hilbrich and Ferlin both scored.

Princeton had chances to score as it had two two-man advantages after four Cornell penalties. Senior Andrew Calof was awarded a penalty shot at 11:15 after Clint Lewis was called for covering the puck in the crease. Senior netminder Andy Iles thwarted the Calof shot, as it fell under his pads. Cornell itself had a two-man advantage late in the period but the TIgers successfully killed off both.

The Big Red however struck again at 16:37 of the second as Lowry made it 4-0.

Junior Tyler Maugeri scored his second goal of the season less than three minutes into the third period with help from seniors Eric Carlson and Andrew Ammon.

With four penalties in the third period Princeton couldn't gain momentum. With 1:27 remaining Cornell was called for a penalty and the Tigers struck. Princeton put six skaters on the ice, pulling netminder Sean Bonar for the 6x4 and junior Tucker Brockett delivered. Senior Jack Berger and Calof earned the assists.

Princeton oushot Cornell, 28-24 as Iles made 26 saves for Cornell and Bonar stopped 20 for the Tigers.

Princeton faces Colgate tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m., at Starr Rink.
