The Princeton open women moved to 5-1 on the season, 4-1 in the Ivy League, with an open water victory over Yale Saturday morning on the Housatonic River. With the win, Princeton retains the Eisenberg Cup, which goes to the winner of the varsity showdown.

Princeton now leads the all-time series 28-11, and the Tigers have won each of the last four meetings with Yale. In the varsity eight competition, Princeton posted a winning time of 6:08.6, while Yale finished second in 6:17.2.

"The race was a solid piece for the boat from start to finish," senior stroke Heidi Robbins said. "We were able to find a strong speed for the bulk of the race from which we could take moves together and respond to our coxswain's calls."

"This week, we had been focusing on finding a strong, consistent rhythm regardless of conditions and race situation," senior Molly Hamrick said. "We were happy with the way we stayed internal today and executed the race plan that we had been practicing. While we are always searching for more speed, we are happy with our performance today, both as a boat and a team."

That win was a highlight during a strong morning for the Tigers, who also claimed wins in the other two NCAA Championship format events, the second varsity (6:16.9, 9.9 seconds) and the varsity four (7:13.5, 3.3 seconds).

"This was definitely a good step in the right direction," Robbins said. "It was inspiring to be part of such a great team performance."

The Princeton third varsity (6:23.9) earned a win over the Tiger 4V and the Yale 3V, while the Princeton V4B finished in 7:08.9 to win by more than five seconds.

"Every boat in the program performed well this weekend," head coach Lori Dauphiny said. "We have been working hard as a team and it was nice to see it pay off. Yale looked solid and we know they will be tough in the future."

The win helps send Princeton into its final stretch with some new momentum. The Tigers will close their Ivy League schedule when they compete for the Class of 1984 Plaque against both Penn and Dartmouth on Lake Carnegie.

On May 19, the league will meet on Cooper River for the second Ivy League Sprints. Every varsity eight will have lost at least once to an Ivy League foe, which sets up a potentially wild sprint to the league title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

"We try to approach every practice, every stroke, with a sense or urgency and intent, and have done so since September," Hamick said. "With the Ivy championships drawing near, this especially holds true, and we will continue to search for more speed on a daily basis."
