In the midst of a pre-conference schedule that has seen seven of eight losses come by two runs or fewer, the Princeton softball team broke through Thursday at George Washington.

Overcoming three early runs by the Colonials, the Tigers scored seven runs across the fifth and sixth innings to rally and win 7-3, snapping a four-game skid in which all four defeats came by one or two runs. Princeton improved to 11-8 with the win as it heads to Delaware State for four games hosted by the Hornets in Delaware's capital.

Alex Peyton picked up the win, earning all three runs on six hits and four walks, striking out four to improve to 3-3 on the season.

A single, a walk and a three-run home run put the Colonials (11-13) up 3-0 in the bottom of the first, and Princeton had just two hits over its first four at-bats. Then came the fifth. After three straight walks, GW lifted starter Meghan Rico for Courtney Martin (5-8), who allowed an RBI groundout to Alyssa Schmidt and a two-run single to Peyton that tied it up.

In the sixth, Princeton had Tory Roberts on second base with two outs until Lizzy Pierce got on with an error that brought home Roberts with the go-ahead run. Schmidt and Peyton took advantage, following with a single and a double that had Princeton ahead 7-3 when the rally ended.

Princeton will meet Colgate at 9 a.m. and Lafayette at 2 p.m. Friday at Delaware State, followed by a 9 a.m. game Saturday against Lafayette and a 2 p.m. game that day against the host Hornets to close the pre-Ivy League schedule.
