NEW HAVEN, Conn. (2/1/13) - Senior netminder Mike Condon stopped a season-high 39 saves as the Princeton men's hockey team fell 4-2 at No. 8 Yale on Friday, Feb. 1 at Ingalls Rink.

Princeton was 1 for 4 on the power play and 7 for 8 on the penalty kill. Yale netminder Nick Maricic finished the game with 20 saves as Yale finished with a 42-22 edge in shots.

"When you take twice as many penalties as your opposition, it's an uphill battle that's tough to climb," head coach Bob Prier said after the game.

Princeton jumped out to the quick lead scoring just 20 seconds into the game. Junior Alec Rush pushed the puck out of the defensive zone to junior Andrew Calof near the checkered red. Calof skated in and sent a puck across the slot to sophomore Tyler Maugeri who popped it into the goal.

Yale battled to tie the game, peppering Condon with shots but he made six saves in the first two minutes minutes. With 2:41 elapsed junior Andrew Ammon was served with a charging the goalie penalty as he and a Yale defender collided into starting netminder Jeff Malcolm. Malcolm was taken off the ice by the training staff and replaced with Nick Maricic, who played the remainder of the game.

Less than 10 seconds into the power play, Jesse Root scored to even the game at 2-2 with help from Tommy Fallen at 2:59.

Eight seconds after the next face off, Carson Cooper was called for a trip setting up the Tigers' first power play. It didn't take the No. 3-ranked Princeton power play long to convert as senior Michael Sdao buried a goal from the point nine seconds later at 3:16 with Maugeri assisting.

Kenny Agostino tied the game at 2-2 at 13:39 when he put a rebound under the cross bar with Fallen collecting his second assist.

Yale outshot Princeton 21-8 with Condon making 19 saves in the first period.

The Tigers did a nice job on the penalty kill by limiting Yale's chances and even taking a few short-handed opportunities on Maricic on the other end.

Clinton Bourbonais gave Yale its first lead of the game at 3:19 as he took the puck across the paint and scored on the left side.

Condon had another incredible period in goal making 13 saves as Yale continued to have the edge in possession as shots fell 14-8 in the Bulldog's favor.

Andrew Miller gave Yale the two-goal edge at 16:42. A penalty on Sdao less than a minute later would put the game further out of reach for the Tigers. After a five-minute major was called on Miller at 18:12, Condon was pulled for the extra attacker. Root got a breakaway at 18:53 and freshman Mike Ambrosia went for the trip to prevent the empty-net goal. Ammon prevented an empty-net goal in the final seconds as he raced to the goal to stop a long shot from a Bulldog.

The Tigers face Brown tomorrow, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. Brown skated to a 1-1 draw with No. 2 Quinnipiac tonight.
