Princeton women's basketball senior guard Niveen Rasheed has been named Ivy League Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. The co-captain earns not only her first, but also the team's first conference accolade of 2012-13. Over the Tigers' first 12 games, she has averaged double figures in points, including scoring 10 points or more in the last 10 games, and notched four double-doubles.

The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year earns her 17th career Ivy weekly award, bringing her Player of the Week tally to eight. She was named Rookie of the Week nine times in 2010. The guard is now in sixth-place on the all-time Player of the Week list, moving past current Princeton head coach Courtney Banghart. At Dartmouth, Banghart earned seven Player of the Week honors from 1997-2000.

Rasheed is coming off a pair of 21-point and double-double performances on the road. On Dec. 19 at Illinois State, the veteran was instrumental in helping propel the Tigers past the Redbirds to earn a 67-50 victory and snap a two-game losing skid. She was 10-for-18 from the field, while grabbing 10 rebounds, making a pair of blocks, an assist and a steal. Rasheed and the Tigers held ISU to an opponent low 23.4 percent (15-for-64) from the field in the game.

Two days later against a receiving votes BIG EAST DePaul team, she dropped 21 points, going 7-for-13 from the field and 6-for-9 from the stripe. She also grabbed 12 rebounds, dished six assists and made three steals.

Following the contest, DePaul's head coach Doug Bruno said, "Niveen Rasheed is a very talented player who doesn't receive the credit she deserves ... Rasheed would start for any team in the BIG EAST Conference - including Connecticut and Notre Dame."

Rasheed is averaging 16.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while tallying 40 assists and 24 steals, all are team-highs.

She was also named the College Sports Madness Ivy League Player of the Week.

This week both Blake Dietrick (24 points, eight rebounds, five assists) and Michelle Miller (14 points, five rebounds, two steals, one block) were named to the weekly honor roll.

The Tigers (7-5) return to action versus Drexel on Monday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. in Jadwin Gym.
