College Sports Madness named Princeton women's basketball senior Niveen Rasheed
the Ivy League Preseason Player of the Year and to the All-Conference Preseason
First Team, it was announced Wednesday. Sixth season head coach Courtney Banghart was tabbed the Preseason Coach of the Year, as the duo earns their
first honors of the 2012-13 campaign.
The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Rasheed is
coming off a decorated junior season. The forward picked up Full Court Mid
Major and Net Scouts All-America accolades, and was an All-Ivy and ECAC
All-Star First Team selection following 2011-12. Rasheed, who was a USBWA
Player of the Year nominee, concluded the year leading the Tigers in nearly
every statistical category and was one of the league's top performers
throughout the year. She averaged 16.4 points, 8.8 boards, 2.9 assists and 2.4
steals per game.
Banghart has guided a flourishing Princeton program to three
consecutive Ivy League titles over her tenure. In 2012, the Tigers earned the
conference's first-ever women's basketball national ranking, concluding the
year No. 24 in the country by the AP. Princeton finished the year at 24-5 and
posted its second perfect 14-0 Ivy slate in three years.
The Tigers open up 2012-13 in Philadelphia at St. Joseph's on
Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. The squad's home opener is on Tuesday, Nov. 20 versus
Rider at 7 p.m.
