Recent Princeton women's basketball alumnae Devona Allgood '12 has signed a professional contract to play for Telge Basket in Södertälje, Sweden. She will play in the Damligan League.
"I couldn't be prouder that Devona's dream of playing professional basketball has come true. She has always been one to set remarkably high goals and has stopped at nothing to reach them. I'm so grateful that my staff and I were able to be a part of her remarkable journey as a player, competitor, and person. We, of course, wish her the best of luck and will be following closely," said Princeton head coach Courtney Banghart.
A three-time All-Ivy performer, including first team selection in 2011, Allgood leaves her mark on the flourishing Tiger program. The 6-3 center was part of three Ivy championship runs, including helping Princeton go a perfect 14-0 twice in league play. A senior captain in 2011-12, Allgood capped off her career as the No. 12 all-time scorer in Tiger history with 1,177 points. She also is ranked in Princeton's top-10 in: blocks, field goals made, field goal percentage, games played, rebounds and rebound average.
"Words cannot express how excited I am to have the opportunity to not only play overseas, but play for such a great organization as Telge in my rookie season. Since I made playing professional basketball overseas a goal of mine, God has placed so many special people in my life to help me reach this goal. I have no doubt that my four years at Princeton have prepared me well for the demands, both expected and unexpected, of playing overseas. I also look forward to the growth that will take place both on and off the court. I know that when I play in Sweden, I am representing not just myself, but also my family, my alma mater and my country. I hope to keep making them all proud," said Allgood.
Allgood will head to Sweden on Monday, Aug. 27 to commence her professional career.
