As the Princeton women’s basketball team prepares to head to its fifth consecutive postseason, three Tigers were named to the All-Ivy League Team in junior Blake Dietrick, senior Kristen Helmstetter and sophomore Alex Wheatley.

“We’re so proud of Blake, Kristen and Alex for their All-League recognition. The continuous work they put into developing their skill sets and also their physical strength and speed is mostly behind the scenes, yet their performances are very public,” said head coach Courtney Banghart.

Dietrick led the Tiger honorees earning First-Team All-Ivy, her first career Ivy postseason award. She adds to her 2013-14 honors, as she was named the program’s first USWBA Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week, named to the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament Team and was a four-time Ivy Player of the Week selection.

In her first full season as Princeton’s starting lead guard, Dietrick paced the squad with 14.4 points per game behind a 47.4 shooting percentage. She averaged 2.5 three-pointers per game and posted a 40.9 three-point shooting percentage, ranking second in the league in both categories and her shooting percentage is No. 28 in the nation. Over 28 starts, Dietrick averaged 32.6 minutes, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game and posted her first career double-double at Penn on Jan. 11.

Helmstetter collects her second consecutive Second-Team All-Ivy honors to conclude her Tiger career as a two-time league selection. Over the season the co-captain also garnered Cavalier Classic All-Tournament Team honors, a career first.

The guard/forward headlined Princeton in double-doubles with four, as she served as the team’s leader in rebounds (6.3) and assists (3.5) per game. For the second straight season she finished as the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 11.6 points per game.

Forward Wheatley earned her first career conference accolade and was named Honorable Mention All-Ivy to round out Princeton’s honorees. Guided by her league-leading 53.7 field goal percentage, Wheatley averaged 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in 28 starts.  She also recorded her first career double-double at Rutgers in the Tigers’ season opener on Nov. 10 and established a new career high with 18 points at Columbia on Feb. 7 to highlight her year.

“To be an All-League performer, selected by the Ivy League coaches, you have to be great in both spheres— inside the lines when the lights are on and in isolation throughout the year in continual preparation. The result of their hard work was rewarded individually, but more importantly, they contributed greatly to the growth of our young Tiger team this season. Congratulations!” concluded Banghart.

Princeton will now await the WNIT Selection Show scheduled for Monday, Mar. 17 in the evening to find out its postseason first round opponent and site.
