The third-ranked Princeton women's lightweight rowing team opened its two-week homestand Saturday in winning fashion, topping Georgetown to retain the Class of 2006 Cup.

Another home win next Saturday would likely come at the expense of the top-ranked team in the nation.

Princeton topped Georgetown to build on the momentum from last weekend's thrilling Knecht Cup win by staying perfect in the Class of 2006 Cup series. The varsity eight won in 7:33.0, while Georgetown finished in 7:48.5.

The Princeton 2V also had a strong debut in the 2014 season, finishing in 8:09.4.

"Our whole team did a solid job of adjusting to some needed lineup changes due to an injury," head coach Paul Rassam said. "I was particularly impressed with Alicia Lamb, who stepped into the V8 this week as a freshman novice walk-on with only six months rowing experience.

"A Cup race is a pressure scenario and she really handled it well," Rassam added.

The pressure will be raised next Saturday, when Princeton hosts Harvard for the Class of 1999 Cup. Harvard entered the weekend ranked second nationally, but a win over No. 1 Stanford in the Lightweight Invitational Regatta Saturday morning will likely move the Crimson atop the rankings by the time they make their way to Lake Carnegie.
