Ratcliffe & Oliver Have Record-Breaking Meet for Women's T&F

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/12/14) – Another week, another record. Sophomore Julia Ratcliffe continues to make headlines in the women’s hammer throw for the Princeton track & field team.

Ratcliffe threw a New Zealand national record, an Ivy League record, a Princeton school record, a collegiate dual/tri/quad meet record and a personal record with a 69.60 (228-04) on her fifth attempt at the Princeton Quad Meeet on Saturday.

Already the NCAA leader, Ratcliffe threw the 16th-furthest throw in NCAA history.

The records didn’t stop there.

Senior Imani Oliver kept them coming over at West Windsor Field as she set a Princeton record and personal best in the triple jump at 12.91 (42-4.25) on her final attempt in the pit. It moved her from ninth all time in Ivy League history to seventh, as she improves on her previous best of 12.87 (42-2.75).

Princeton was second in the meet overall with 62.5 points. Monmouth was first with 76.5 points, while St. John's was third with 35 points and Vermont fourth with 21.

Princeton went 1-2 in the pole vault as senior Samantha Anderson won the event and freshman Allison Harris taking second. Anderson cleared 3.85 (12-7.50) and Harris 3.70 (12-1.50).

In the high jump, sophomore Taylor Morgan was the runner up at 1.65 (5-5) and classmate Kerry Krause was fourth at the same height.

Freshman Alex Lanzafame was third in the triple jump at 11.40 (37-5) and fourth in the long jump at 5.37 (17-7.50). Sara Ronde was third in the long jump leaping to 5.41 (17-0). In the throws, sophomore Brielle Rowe placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 39.98 (131-02).

In a rare finish, freshman Megan Curham tied for first place in the 1500. It was Curham’s first time running the 1500 and she finished it in 4:28.74. Three Tigers followed as junior Kathryn Fluehr was third at 4:30.40, senior Molly Higgins fourth at 4:31.08 and senior Clare Gallagher fifth with a PR of 4:33.77.

Another victory came from freshman Lizzie Bird. She won the steeplechase in her first time competing in the event as a collegiate and finished the 3,000 meters in 10:30.19.

Junior Erika Fluehr grabbed the victory in the 3k at 9:47.76, a PR. She was the only runner to finish in less than 10 minutes.

Junior Kim Mackay won the 800 with a time of 2:11.20, while senior Kristin Smoot was third at 2:12.00.

Senior Beth McKenna was third in the 100 hurdles, with Krause right behind in fourth place with a time of 14.91.

Sophomore Meghan McMullin was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles at 59.52. She was one of two hurdles that finished in less than one minute.

Mackay and McMullin made up the final two legs of the 4x400 that placed third out of nine relays.  The duo was joined by freshman Elisa Steele and junior Emily Broyles,

The 4x100 relay of Ronde, junior Joanna Anyanwu, junior Emily Easton and senior Lily Miller came in second at 47.59

Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend, April 18-19.
