Princeton alumnus Ian Hummer '13 will soon head to Los Angeles to play for a chance to be a Laker next month.
Hummer has been invited to a Lakers pre-summer league camp where the team will make its last few decisions on whom to take to Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League that runs from July 12-22 on the UNLV campus.
NBA Summer League teams typically consist of players who are reserves on that NBA team during the season as well as recent draftees and other players, such as Hummer, whom the team is evaluating for a roster spot.
Hummer had worked out for the Lakers on June 24, his last workout before the NBA Draft that was held three days later in New York. He had also worked out for the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz and Sacramento Kings.
The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year, Hummer graduated from Princeton as the second-leading all-time scorer in school history and the first player in 22 years to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and blocks. A first-team All-Ivy League pick the last two years, he was the first Princetonian since 1999 to earn two first-team all-league selections as well as the first Princeton player since that year to earn the Ivy Player of the Year honor.
