Summer break has barely begun, but Princeton men's basketball rising sophomore Hans Brase is already putting in work with the German U-20 national team in competitions across Europe.

Brase, who was born in the U.S. but has close German ancestry, just concluded a series of friendlies in preparation for the U-20 European Championship in Estonia July 9-21. The German team took on Slovenia on back-to-back days over the weekend, with Brase leading Germany with 14 points in the second meeting. Germany lost to the Slovenes in the opener 68-48 but rebounded for a 63-50 win in the second game.

The prep will continue with games June 14-16 against Greece, Turkey and France in Chartres, France. The last 11 days of June will feature preparation tournaments as well, with an event in Italy June 20-25, then in Turkey June 26-30.

The U-20 European Championship will feature 16 teams across four groups, with Germany in Group A with Georgia, Serbia and Lithuania. The top three teams from each of the four groups will advance to the second round and reorganize into two groups of six. The top four teams from each of those two groups will advance to the quarterfinals and play in a bracket format from there to decide the champion. The 2012 event was held in Slovenia and won by Lithuania, with Germany losing in the quarterfinals but taking fifth place after emerging from a bracket of the four quarterfinal-losing teams.
