Princeton basketball alumnus Armond Hill '85 was announced this week as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers, following head coach Doc Rivers from Boston to California.

Hill had been an assistant coach under Rivers with the Boston Celtics from the time Rivers became the team's head coach in 2004 until Rivers was named the Clippers' head coach late last month. The pair helped lead Boston to seven NBA playoff appearances in nine years, including NBA Finals berths in 2008 and 2010 and an NBA title in 2008.

Hill is among the 29 players in Princeton basketball history to score 1,000 career points, doing so in just three seasons from 1973-76. He is among Princeton's leaders in assists, currently 10th on the school's career assist list with 260, and he is one of six Princeton players with two seasons of at least 100 assists each. Hill also holds the Princeton record for most steals in a season, with 73 in 1975-76.

After Princeton, Hill was the first-round pick of the Atlanta Hawks, going ninth overall in the 1976 NBA Draft. He played eight NBA seasons with Atlanta, Seattle, San Diego and Milwaukee before returning to Princeton to complete his degree in psychology in 1985.

Hill began his coaching career at the nearby Lawrenceville School before returning to Princeton as an assistant coach to Pete Carril in 1991. His first head coaching position at the collegiate level was at Columbia in 1995, remaining there until 2003 when he joined the Atlanta Hawks as an assistant for one season. In Boston, he joined Rivers, a teammate of Hill's in Atlanta during the 1983-84 campaign.
