Box Score

For the second consecutive game the offense shot over 50 percent versus a MAAC opponent resulting in a Princeton women’s basketball victory. This time it was a 75-62 win at Rider Tuesday evening in nearby Lawrenceville, N.J.

Despite shooting 70 percent in the first half and finishing at 51.7 percent (31-for-60), it was foul trouble that allowed the Broncs to close in on Princeton’s double figure lead at multiple points through the contest.

The Tigers committed 25 fouls, as Rider saw nearly half of its points coming from the stripe (25-for-34).

While fouls could have spelled trouble, a solid shooting effort across the board was enough to prevent the Tigers’ momentum from capsizing.

For the third straight game junior Blake Dietrick recorded double digit scoring numbers with a team-high 15 points and added eight rebounds.

Kristen Helmstetter notched her second career double-double, finishing with 12 points and matching a game-high with 10 boards. Helmstetter has now scored in double figures in the last two contests.

Reaching the double figure scoring mark for the first time in her career was sophomore Taylor Williams who had 12 points, including 10 crucial first half points, and went 5-for-6 from the field in her 24 minutes off the bench.

Princeton opened on a 5-0 run, extending it quickly to 13-3 by 16:13 off an Alex Wheatley fast break layin, but three ensuing turnovers allowed the Broncs to create their own momentum pull.

Rider would come as close as five, 15-10 at 14:10, but it would be as close as the Broncs came within the lead over the remainder of the game.

Reaching the midpoint of the first half, Williams knocked down three straight baskets to guide Princeton’s 14-3 run to establish a much-needed cushion and 31-15 lead at 8:07.

The Tigers held a 47-32 lead at halftime and would hover around a double figure advantage over the final period.

Princeton established its largest margin with 10:36 left in regulation, 62-44, but six fouls over the next six minutes allowed Rider to claw within nine, 68-59.

The Broncs’ final push would not be enough as they missed their next six shot attempts from the field and were outscored 7-3 to close out the contest.

The Tigers held a 51-29 rebounding margin, tallying 38 defensive boards to limit Rider to only seven second chance baskets.

Princeton (2-1) will remain on the road heading to Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 23 for a 2 p.m. contest. It will be the fourth meeting between both programs and first since 2011.
