Freshman outside hitter Cara Mattaliano helped Princeton end a five-match losing streak with one of her best weekends of the season, and her performance earned her a second Ivy League Rookie of the Week honor this season.
She recorded back-to-back strong efforts as Princeton rolled to a weekend sweep of Columbia and Cornell. Mattaliano had 19 kills in each win, hitting. 390 for the weekend. She averaged 5.43 kills per set for the weekend. She hit .396 against Columbia (48 swings without an error) and added 16 digs. That was followed up with a .382 hitting percentage with 19 kills in three sets against Cornell.
It is Mattaliano's second Rookie of the Week honor.
"Cara has become a consistent offensive threat," head coach Sabrina King said. "She has a whip of an arm, and she swings for a kill every time. We are very happy with the way she performed this past weekend."
Mattaliano and Princeton will head north this weekend for their final two road matches of the season, including a Friday night showdown at second-place Harvard and then a rematch with Dartmouth, which pulled out a 3-2 road win at Princeton earlier this season.
