Turnovers Doom Sprint Football In Shootout Loss At Cornell
Princeton threw for 330 yards and had only one fewer first down than Cornell Friday night at Schoellkopf Field, but four Tiger turnovers would be far too much to overcome in a 50-19 road loss.
Both Chris McCord and John Wolfe combined for 15 catches for 237 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Kahdeem Cohens added four catches for 68 yards and a score for Princeton, which fell to 0-5 with the loss.
Cohens' 22-yard touchdown reception came with nine minutes remaining in the first half and cut the Cornell lead to 21-7, but Princeton interceptions on back-to-back drives thwarted any chance for Princeton to seize momentum before the half.
McCord kept the Tigers in the mix with a 31-yard pass midway through the third, but Cornell followed with a 55-yard touchdown run 25 seconds later to all but ice the victory. Wolfe's eight-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter gave Princeton a season-best 19 points.
Sophomore Richard Freling was the defensive star for Princeton; he recorded 17 tackles, including 11 solo stops, and added a tackle for loss. Wolfe had one of the best all-around games for either team; while he caught seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, he also added 2.5 tackles for loss on the defense, including one of Princeton's two sacks.
Princeton will conclude its season with two more road games, starting next Friday at Army.
