Behind shutouts from Alex Peyton and Liza Kuhn, the Princeton softball team swept the Ivy League-opening doubleheader over Brown 8-0 and 5-0 Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1895 Field.

Princeton (16-8, 2-0) swept the annual twinbill from the Bears (6-10, 0-2) for the first time since 2008 and at home for the first time since 2006. The teams had split their last four doubleheader meetings.

Sunday's start time against Yale has been changed to 11 a.m. from the original start time of 12:30 p.m. due to the threat of rain later in the afternoon.

In the first game, Princeton beat the Bears 8-0 in six innings with home runs early and late. Nikki Chu got the Tigers going with a two-run shot in the second inning to put Princeton up 2-0, and Alyssa Schmidt ended it in the sixth with a three-run shot. Each of the top eight hitters in the lineup got a hit in the first game, with Rachel Rendina, Peyton and Chu each getting two.

In the circle, Peyton set the Bears down in order in the second and sixth innings but got out of a jam in the first with runners on second and third and none out. A lineout and a called third strike got Peyton out of that one, and the senior went on to allow only three more Brown runners into scoring position over the final five frames. Peyton gave up five hits, walked a pair and struck out four in her first complete-game shutout since doing so against Columbia on April 21 of last season.

Kuhn got out of jams of her own in the second game, loading the bases with none out in the first and one out in the second, emerging unscathed both times. After that, no Brown runner got past first base over the final five innings. Kuhn struck out five and allowed seven hits, walking two.

The complete-game shutout was also Kuhn's first of the season and first since a five-inning blanking of La Salle last season on April 12.

At the plate, Princeton again bookended the game with home runs, though this time both came from the same player. Rendina and Schmidt each had first-inning doubles, Schmidt driving in Rendina for the game's first run, and Peyton made it 3-0 in the first with a two-run shot. Peyton made it 5-0, bringing in Schmidt once again in the sixth.

It was the first time since 2006, in the last time Princeton swept Brown at '95 Field, that Princeton shut out an Ivy League opponent in both ends of a doubleheader.
