BOX SCORE

PHILADELPHIA (3/16/13) - And you thought last Saturday was wild? Add the most recent one, this time against Penn, to the one a week ago for the Princeton men's lacrosse team - who has now had a second consecutive extraordinarily frustrating Saturday afternoon.

This time, Princeton fell 11-10 to Penn in front of 1,437 at Franklin Field on a game that featured all of the following - snow (enough to cover the field), sleet, heavy rain, a 65-minute lightning delay and ultimately a furious Princeton rally at the end that just fell a few inches or a few seconds short.

All of this came seven days after Princeton lost 16-15 at North Carolina on two goals in the final 37 seconds, including the game-winner with three seconds left. At least that game was played in the sunshine and 65 degree weather in Chapel Hill.

The result is that sixth-ranked Princeton falls to 4-2 overall, 0-1 in the Ivy League, while Penn is now 5-1, 1-0. Princeton hosts Yale Friday in an ESPNU game.

Penn led 11-8 with 2:44 to go before Princeton's Jeff Froccaro and Tom Schreiber scored 23 seconds apart, making it a one-goal game with 45 seconds to play.

Justin Murphy won the face-off, and Chris White and Schreiber ripped shots just over the goal in the frantic final seconds before Penn was able to throw it the length of the field as time expired.

TURNING POINT OF THE GAME - The game was tied at 7-7 when Princeton's Mark Strabo was called for a slash. With the flag down, Nick Doktor scored to make it 8-7, with 6:03 to go in the fourth. Penn then won the face-off and scored an extra-man goal to make it 9-7 32 seconds later, and a penalty against Brian Reilly gave Penn the ball and another EMO. The Quakers scored on that one as well, turning it into a 10-7 game with three goals in 45 seconds.

WEATHER REPORT - The game started in sleet that quickly turned to snow. As the field began to be covered by the white stuff, Penn was able to build a 4-0 lead. When the snow stopped, Princeton answered with four goals of its own, including one by Schreiber with 13 seconds left in the half, tying it at 4-4 at intermission. As the 10-minute half was about to end, thunder could be heard, resulting in a delay that started as 30 minutes and grew to 55, plus a 10-minute warmup period. With the 10 minutes of halftime, the teams did not play for a 1:15 span. The rain ended as the third quarter started.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME - Mike MacDonald had four goals and two assists for Princeton, and Schreiber had three goals and two assists. Between them, they had seven goals of the 10 goals and four of the six assists. Justin Murphy won 15 of 22 face-offs. Freshman goalie Matt O'Connor made 12 saves.

WHAT THE BOX SCORE DOESN'T TELL YOU - Princeton had leads of 5-4, 6-5 and 7-6 and had the ball with the lead each time but could never build a two-goal lead. Each time Penn got a stop and then scored to tie it.

STAT OF THE GAME - Penn was 4 for 4 on extra-man opportunities.
