Despite both sides recording five hits apiece, the Princeton baseball team was unable to find momentum at the plate and fell 6-0 to Maryland in its 2013 season opener.

The series continues between the Tigers (0-1) and Terrapins (6-3) on Saturday in doubleheader action in College Park, Md. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.

In the top of the third with two outs, Alec Keller was walked and advanced to third on a balk and a wild pitch, but Princeton was unable to break up the scoreless draw. He would be the only Tiger base runner to advance past second for the remainder of the game.

Senior Zak Hermans' tossed two scoreless frames and struck out a pair before things unraveled in the bottom of the third. The righty gave up four consecutive walks and Maryland scored the eventual game-winning run.

Over four innings, Hermans threw five strikeouts and conceded only the lone earned run.

Sophomore Danny Thomson relieved Hermans in the fifth, but it was Maryland to add more run support during his stint. The Terrapins added five more runs versus Thomson, including a two-run homer his second batter into his three-inning outing.

Princeton only managed two hits between the fifth through ninth innings.

Making their Princeton debut in the starting lineup were freshmen Billy Arendt and Danny Hoy. Arendt started at shortstop and hit a double in his first career at bat in the second, while Hoy served as the Tigers' leadoff batter and played at second base. He had a pair of walks and a singled in his first at bat.
