ROCHESTER, N.Y. (10/19/12) - The Princeton women's hockey team scored two power-play goals to defeat Rochester Institute of Technology, 2-1 on Friday, Oct. 19 in the team's season opener at Ritter Arena.
Junior Sally Butler scored the game-winning goal at 13:04 of the third period with help from sophomore Brianna Leahy and junior Denna Laing.
Leahy and Butler were also factors in the Tigers' first goal, with each picking up an assist on junior Gabie Figueroa's goal. The goal gave Princeton a 1-0 lead at 11:24 of the first, as the Tigers capitalized on their first power-play opportunity.
Freshman Kimberly Newell made her first collegiate start in goal and made 33 saves in the win. Laura Chamberlain stopped 32 shots for RIT.
Princeton was 2 for 4 on the power play, while RIT was 0 for 3.
Princeton travels to Robert Morris for a 4 p.m., game tomorrow, Oct. 20.
