THE 2014 SCHEDULE

A trio of fairly local tournaments, a four-match home streak within Ivy League play and the annual Penn-Princeton thriller in Dillon Gym highlight the upcoming 2014 Princeton women's volleyball schedule, which was just announced by head coach Sabrina King.

While local fans will have to wait until October for their first chance to see Princeton in Dillon Gym, they won't need to travel much more than an hour to see any of their first 11 matches of the season.

Princeton will play in three tournaments before Ivy League play begins, including the season-opening Temple Invitational (Sept. 5-6, Pearson-McGonigle Hall). The Tigers will open their season at 12:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 5, against UNC-Charlotte, and will follow up with a 3:30 matchup against Holy Cross. The weekend concludes with a Saturday showdown against the host Owls (1 pm).

Princeton heads to Newark, Del., the following weekend for the Delaware Tournament (Sept. 12-13, Bob Carpenter Center). The Tigers will play Friday against both George Mason (11 am) and Delaware (7 pm), and will play Manhattan Saturday at 10 am.

The final tournament of the pre-Ivy League schedule takes place at nearby Rutgers (Sept. 19-20, College Ave. Gym) as Princeton will play four times. On Friday, the Tigers will take on both American (9:30 am) and James Madison (2:30 pm). The following day, Princeton will face both Akron (10 am) and Rutgers (5:30 pm).

The 11-match road odyssey concludes Sept. 26 at the Palestra in Philadelphia, where Princeton will take on Penn in the Ivy League opener (7 pm) for both teams. The Princeton-Penn rivalry has featured six five-set matches over the last eight meetings, including a 3-2 thriller that Princeton won in the 2013 Ivy opener.

Princeton will finally head to Dillon Gym for its home opener Oct. 3 when it takes on Cornell at 7 pm. That match starts a four-match homestand, which concludes with an Oct. 11 showdown against Ivy champion Yale (5 pm). Princeton's three other home matches will be Oct. 24, an Alumni Weekend showdown against Penn (7), and Nov. 7-8 matches against Harvard (7) and Dartmouth (5).

Princeton returns six of seven starters from last season, including former first-team All-Ivy honorees Cara Mattaliano and Kendall Peterkin.
