Despite another impressive performance by freshman Cara Mattaliano, the Princeton women's volleyball team dropped the opening match of the Hofstra Invitational 3-1. After dropping the first set, the Pride rallied to win the final to take the match.
Mattaliano led Princeton in points (15), kills (12), and service aces (3), but those wouldn't be enough for the Tigers in a 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 road loss. Mattaliano was one of several Princeton freshmen who had solid showings; Lauren Miller shared the team high with 14 assists, while Ellie Shannon and Brittany Ptak both had four kills apiece. Mary Claire Bartlett had her best performance of the young season, recording 10 digs.
Junior co-captain Sarah Hanna had six kills without an error, while classmate Tiana Woolridge added six kills and four blocks. Ginny Willis also had 14 assists, while sophomore Sarah Daschbach had a team-best 15 digs.
Princeton returns to the court for two matches Saturday, starting with an 11 am showdown against Central Michigan. The Tigers also play South Carolina-Upstate at 5 pm.
