En-wei Hu-Van Wright set a Princeton record in the 200 back during the final day of the Ivy League Championships.

COMPLETE RESULTS

The last time that the Ivy Championships were held at Harvard, a gritty 2011 Princeton squad held off a hard-charging Harvard to win its third of five straight Ivy League championships. That run ended Saturday night, as the Crimson rode a strong first day to the 2014 title.

Harvard won the meet with 1495 points, while Princeton finished second with 1413 points. The Tigers chipped into the Crimson lead over the final two days, but a 105-point deficit at the end of Day 1 was too much ground to make up. Penn placed third with 1050 points, while Yale finished fourth with 987 points.

A pair of underclassmen opened the final session of the meet with strong distance performances. Sophomore Zach Ridout took third in the mile in 15:12.22, while freshman Sam Smiddy — coming off his Ivy League title in the 400 IM Friday night — placed sixth in 15:20.74.

Sophomore En-wei Hu-Vn Wright topped his own Princeton record in the 200 back, going 1:43.44, but it wasn't enough to defeat Harvard's Jack Manchester, who set a meet record in 1:42.62. Junior Connor Maher, the reigning Ivy League champion in the event, took fourth in the event in 1:44.58, while Conner Jager (1:46.29) and Michael Strand (1:46.85) went 1-2 in the consolation final.

Princeton placed three in the championship final of the 100 free, a group that was led by sophomore Jeremy Wong, who finished fifth in 44.10. Junior Harrison Wagner was just off Wong's pace, taking sixth in 44.47, while sophomore Sandy Bole took eighth in 44.53.

Sophomore Byron Sanborn took third in the 200 breast in 1:56.68, while senior tri-captain Daniel Hasler, in his final Ivy League swim, finished seventh in 2:00.30. The Tigers also went 7-8 in the 200 fly, with Oliver Bennett (1:47.26) edging out Marco Bove (1:47.43).

Senior diver Mark O'Connell had a terrific final performance at the Ivy Championships, taking second in the 3-meter competition with 329.15 points. Junior Michael Manhard finished fourth with 324.00 points, while freshman Nathan Makarewicz, in his first championship final, took sixth with 313.75 points.

The 400 free relay of Hu-Van Wright, Wagner, Wong and Bole finished the event with a third-place finish in 2:55.12.
