UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (2/2/13) - The Princeton women's track
& field team finished second behind the host school Penn State at the Sykes
& Sabock Challenge Cup on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The Tigers earned 86 points and finished ahead of 11 other
teams including Ivy League foes Cornell and Penn.
Sophomore Jackie Nicholas won the 5000 by a wide margin. She
ran 16:33.39 more than 23 seconds faster than the next fastest runner. That
next fastest runner was senior Abby Levene, who clocked a 16:56.82. Freshman
Lindsay Eysenbach was fourth at 17:42.16 as the trio collected 23 points in the
event.
The DMR of juniors Molly Higgins and Kristin Smoot, senior
Mel Newbery and sophomore Kim Mackay won the race. The relay posted a time of
11:31.22 to finish ahead of second-place Cornell by more than three seconds.
Smoot earned points in the 600 as well as she finished third
with a PR of 1:33.04. Mackay was sixth with a PR of 1:34.42 as the pair picked
up nine points in the event. Newbery also scored in the mile as she ran a
4:58.82 for seventh place.
The Tigers had three scorers in the 800. Senior Greta
Feldman was the runner up at 2:08.78 while classmate Alexis Mikaelian was third
with a PR of 2:09.79. Fellow senior Melissa Zajdel ran 2:13.46 for seventh
place.
Sophomore Cecilia Barowski was third in the 400 with a PR of
55.34
Senior Tory Worthen won the pole vault to kick start the
field events. Worthen cleared 3.85 (12-7.50), five inches better than the next
vaulter. Senior Lauren Tauscher scored as well as she cleared 3.60 (11-9.75).
Junior Imani Oliver was fifth in the triple jump with a mark
of 12.07 (39-7.25), and freshman Taylor Morgan was sixth in the high jump
clearing 1.70 (5-7).
In the weight throw, freshman Julia Ratcliffe scored with a
throw of 16.69 (54-9.25), which settled her into eighth place.
Three juniors competed in the pentathlon that did not
contribute to the team score. Theresa Kennedy collected 3270 points, while Beth
McKenna had 3254 and Samantha Anderson had 2978.
In addition to today's meet, Princeton sent a DMR to the
Armory Collegiate Invitational yesterday. The relay of Feldman, Mikaelian,
Barowski and senior Joie Hand finished ninth at 11:32.
At the Armory College the Tigers DMR of Mikaelian, Hand,
Barowski and Feldman ran 11:32 to finished ninth.
Princeton hosts the HYP meet next Saturday, Feb 9 at Jadwin
Gym.
