The Princeton wrestling team will look for its first dual win of the season Saturday afternoon when it heads to Alumni Gym in nearby Lawrenceville to take on the Rider Broncs. The match can be seen live on GoPrincetonTigers.TV (click link above; subscription required).
Princeton struggled through a loaded field at the 2012 Northeast Duals last weekend, but it is hoping that the potential return of a upperweight duo could signal a turnaround for the Tigers. Head coach Chris Ayres is hopeful that junior co-captain Dan Santoro (184/197) and freshman Cole Lampman (285) could both make their season debuts this weekend.
Should Lampman wrestle, Princeton could be sending five freshmen to the mat against Rider, which earned a 29-10 victory over the Tigers last year in Dillon Gym. The other four have competed in multiple weekends already this season, and Scott Gibbons (184/197) leads the team with 10 wins already this season.
Princeton also got a lift last weekend from junior Ryan Callahan, who won twice in his 2012-13 season debut. The former New Jersey state champion was one of four Tigers to earn at least one win at the Duals, and each of the other three are projected to start this weekend. Included in that group is two-time EIWA placewinner Zach Bintliff (149), who is 6-4 on the season.
Rider is 2-0 this season, and the Broncs have been led by junior Ramon Santiago, who is ranked 15th nationally at 165 pounds. Senior Zac Cibula (157) leads Rider with 12 wins this season, while 184-pound sophomore Clint Morrison has eight wins this season. Morrison and Gibbons have already wrestled twice this year; Morrison won 3-2 in the first match, while Gibbons registered a first-period pin in the rematch.
