Pecotic, Muliawan Head to New York for National Collegiate Indoors
Senior Matija Pecotic and freshman Amanda Muliawan will represent the Princeton tennis programs in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships this weekend in New York.
Entry into the event is well-earned, with both Princeton players having won the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional last month. Pecotic had already clinched a bid through his run to the semifinals at the ITA/All-America tournament early in October.
The men's and women's singles draws will each have 32 players, 22 of which were determined by performances in other USTA/ITA events like the All-America and regional tournaments. The other 10 are wild cards or at-large bids.
The tournament will get underway Thursday, with play beginning at 9 a.m. with two doubles rounds and then the opening round of singles. Friday will see two singles rounds and a consolation after doubles gets underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, doubles will again start at 9 a.m., followed by two rounds of singles and a consolation. Finals are on Sunday, beginning with doubles at 10 a.m.
In the men's draw, Pecotic is the No. 3 seed, the first Ivy League singles player to be seeded at the event since Harvard's James Blake in 1999. He will start Thursday in the Round of 32 against Mac Styslinger of Virginia at 1:30 p.m.
Muliawan will start against Danielle Collins of Florida at 1 p.m. with USC's Zoe Scandalis, seeded third, as the seeded player in that eighth of the bracket.
While Muliawan's run will complete the fall season for the women's team, two other men's players will head to Florida for the Dick Vitale Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. More information on the tournament can be found here.
Dan Richardson and Zack McCourt will take part in a 32-player draw beginning Friday at 9 a.m. with two rounds on each of the first two days and the final Sunday. Players from Pepperdine, Duke, Oklahoma State, Arizona, South Florida, Florida, Miami (Fla.), Minnesota and Virginia will also be competing in the men's tournament.
