After wrapping up their respective ECAC tournaments last weekend, both Princeton tennis teams will be in action again this weekend, one month before the Ivy League schedule begins.
Princeton's men will host Buffalo Sunday at 11 a.m. and Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader at Jadwin Gym. The Tiger men enter the weekend at 3-6, while Buffalo stands at 1-4 entering a match Saturday afternoon at Penn and FDU is 2-2 heading into a Friday afternoon match at Columbia. In national rankings among the trio of teams, Princeton's Matija Pecotic is ranked No. 59 as a singles player, while the Tigers' Matt Siow and Matt Spindler are No. 24 in doubles. Princeton has never faced Buffalo, while Princeton's first meeting with FDU was last season in Jadwin Gym, a 7-0 Tiger win.
The Princeton women (5-2) will head to Montgomery, Ala., to compete in the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic, an event that puts eight teams in a bracket and guarantees each team three matches. No. 40 Princeton will open against No. 58 Illinois (5-2) Friday at 9:30 a.m. ET. Each team has one nationally ranked singles player, Hilary Bartlett at No. 84 for Princeton and Allison Falkin at No. 120 for Illinois. Princeton has two ranked doubles teams, with Bartlett and Lindsay Graff at No. 35 and Katie Goepel and Rachel Saiontz at No. 49. The Tigers will then face either No. 20 Alabama (3-1) or Oklahoma State (3-1) Saturday, with No. 12 Virginia (6-2), No. 33 Arizona (4-2), No. 57 SMU (0-4) or Auburn (4-1) waiting on the other side of the bracket Sunday.
Princeton has faced Illinois once, a 4-3 win in 2008 in Puerto Rico, and is 1-1 against SMU (last meeting 1994) and 1-0 against Auburn (1981). Princeton is 2-6 all-time against Virginia, but only one of those meetings has come with any of the current Tigers on the team, a 4-3 first-round NCAA loss to the Cavaliers in 2010.
