Following a solid start to the Ivy League slate, the Princeton baseball team (5-17) will head to Seton Hall for a midweek clash with the Pirates (11-13) on Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 4 p.m. The non-conference game will be the first of four during the remainder of the regular season.
Last Time Out: Princeton went 3-1 in its Ivy opening weekend, including a sweep of Brown. Mike Ford, Zak Hermans and Kevin Link all earned complete game victories, as the Tigers split with Yale to open the conference schedule. Hermans earned his first win of the year in a 4-0 victory over Yale on Mar. 30, while Ford and Link were on the mound for a pair of 3-1 defeats versus Brown the next day.
On Deck: The Tigers hit the road for their first Ivy road trip of the year this weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard. Princeton plays the Big Green on Saturday, Apr. 6 in doubleheader action, followed by a twinbill the next day versus the Crimson. First pitch is set for 12 noon both days.
Shut ’Em Out: Zak Hermans tossed the Tigers first shutout win of 2013, going the distance in Princeton’s seven inning 4-0 victory over Yale to kick off Ivy play. The senior righty struck out five and scattered three hits in 24 batters faced. He also had four 1-2-3 innings.
At the Plate: Alec Keller headlined the offense following Princeton’s Ivy opening weekend. As the leadoff batter in all four games, he went 7-for-15 with four runs, a triple and a home run. He also was 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts.
Freshman Billy Arendt also started all four games and was 4-for-9 with a double, an RBI and a run. The infielder made four putouts and 14 assists for a perfect fielding percentage.
Ivy Debuts: Freshmen infielders Billy Arendt and Danny Hoy, and pitchers Chris Bodurian and Cameron Mingo, along with sophomore pitcher Danny Thomson made their Ivy League debuts last weekend. Arendt and Hoy both started all four games.
Scouting Seton Hall: The Pirates host a pair of midweek contests, beginning with Rider on Tuesday before hosting the Tigers the next afternoon. Seton Hall is coming off a 2-1 series versus UConn and is 11-13, 3-3 BIG EAST. Zack Granite leads the offense with a .340 batting average (32-for-94) and has 22 runs, 10 RBI, four triples and two doubles. A starting pitcher has yet to be determined for Wednesday’s meeting.
