This Week for the Tigers:
The
Princeton baseball team (1-7) opens its 10-game spring break trip with a
three-game weekend series at Georgetown (9-6). Due to impending inclement weather
the series has been adjusted, opening on Friday, Mar. 15 with a doubleheader beginning
at 1 p.m. The weekend will conclude on Sunday, Mar. 17 at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Tigers went 1-3 at Stetson from Mar.
8-10. All three losses were by one run, including a 7-6 12-inning defeat to
open the series. Princeton did earn its first win of the year, 2-1, behind
seven scoreless Kevin Link innings a 4-for-4 game-winning RBI performance from
Alex Flink.
On Deck: Princeton travels to the state of North
Carolina for three midweek games at North Carolina, Elon and UNC-Greensboro on
Mar. 19-20.

Scouting Georgetown: Georgetown (9-6) enters this
weekend's series following its 7-4 midweek victory over UMBC. The Hoyas opened
their season on Feb. 15 and have played 15 games already.
Georgetown's offense is powered by Justin Leeson and Danny
Polawski. Leeson leads the team with a .404 batting average (23-for-57), while
Poplawski is hitting .328 (19-for-58) and has a team-best eight doubles.
The Hoyas have employed 13 pitchers, relying on Friday starter
Jack Vander Linden (1-0) for the majority of their innings. Over 21.1 innings,
he has a 3.80 ERA and tossed 17 strikeouts and eight walks.
Foote Earns First Career Win: Left-handed pitcher Tyler Foote
earned his first career win in Princeton's 2-1 victory over Stetson on Mar. 8.
The sophomore allowed one run on one hit, while striking out a batter.
A Look at the Hurlers:
• Zak Hermans has a team-high 11 strikeouts over 10.1 innings.
• Freshman Cameron Mingo leads the newcomers with 6.0 innings and
six strikeouts.
• Mike Ford leads the rotation with a team-best 0.90 ERA.
Flink's on Fire: Senior infielder Alex Flink went
a perfect 4-for-4 on Mar. 9 at Stetson to help guide the Tigers to their first
win of 2013, 2-1. He hit the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth.
Finding Their Way: Last weekend's series at Stetson
showed the progression of the Tiger offense, only being outscored 17-15.
Princeton lost three of the four games by only one run, including playing their
first extra frame game of the year.
Road Warriors: Princeton will play its first 18 games on
the road before its home opener versus Yale on Saturday, Mar. 30.
Extra Innings: Princeton played in its first extra inning
game of the year at Stetson on Mar. 8. After three scoreless frames, the Tigers
took a 3-0 fifth inning lead. Stetson would tie things up in the seventh, 3-3,
and again in the ninth, 4-4. Princeton scored a pair of runs in the 11th, but
the Hatters managed to add three of their own in the 11th and 12th innings to
edge past the Tigers, 7-6.
2013 Outlook:
• Princeton boasts one of its deepest rosters in 2013 with 32
players.
• The Tigers return six field starters from a year ago, along with
three starting pitchers.
• Including the three starting pitchers returning, the Tigers
welcome back 11 hurlers.
• Princeton welcomes eight newcomers in 2013. The addition of
three pitchers and five field players will look to bolster the lineup.
• The Tigers lost five letterwinners from a year ago, including a
pair of starters in shortstop/RHP junior Matt Bowman and catcher/utility senior
Sam Mulroy. The duo was both drafted last spring by the Mets and Angels,
respectively.
2012 All-Ivy: Six Tigers earned All-Ivy League honors in
2012 wiht Ivy Pitcher of the Year Zak Hermans leading the way. Hermans, Sam
Mulroy and Alec Keller were named to the first team, while Mike Ford was tabbed
to the second team. Matt Bowman earned honorable mention accolades at both
pitcher and shortstop, along with outfielder Steve Harrington.
Princeton
returns four All-Ivy selections in 2013.
