Of the 16 seeded players entering either the men's or women's CSA individual championships Friday at Trinity College, 13 will compete in Saturday's quarterfinal round. Two of the three unseeded players who advanced helped a pair of Princeton squads to Ivy League championships this past season.

Seniors Todd Harrity and Julie Cerullo, junior Libby Eyre and sophomore Tyler Osborne are all still alive in the hunt for national championships.

WOMEN

Cerullo reached the quarterfinal round for the third straight season by defeating both Robyn Hodgson of Trinity and Kerrie Sample of Stanford in the opening rounds. Her second-round match against Sample, the No. 2 at Stanford, was a battle; Sample took the first game and pushed Cerullo to extra points in the fourth, but the three-time All-America advanced.

Cerullo will look for her third straight berth in the semifinal round when she takes on Penn's Yan Xin Tan, who defeated Trinity's Cataline Pelaez in five close games in the second round.

On the bottom half of the draw, Eyre advanced as an unseeded player thanks to a thrilling win in the second round. After a 3-0 win in the opener, she defeated Stanford No. 1 Pamela Chua 7-11, 11-1, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6 to reach her second straight quarterfinal round. She will take on Yale's Millie Tomlinson, the 2011 national champion, Saturday afternoon.

Both Nicole Bunyan and Rachel Leizman lost in the first round, though both came back with hard-fought wins in their consolation debuts.

In the 'B' draw, juniors Alex Sawin and Lexi Saunders, as well as sophomore Hallie Dewey, are all still in the mix and will play Round of 16 matches Saturday.

MEN

Harrity is the top seed in the Pool Division (the men's 'A' flight), and he swept his first two matches of the tournament Friday. His quarterfinal match will be a rematch of the 2011 championship final, as he takes on Cornell's Nick Sachvie.

Harrity defeated Sachvie 3-0 in the 2011 final, and he beat him 3-1 during the regular season this year.

A win could send Harrity into a semifinal with Columbia's Ramit Tandon, who knocked the Princeton co-captain out of the 2012 championships during the semifinal round. Tandon, the fourth seed, will have a tough quarterfinal against Ahmed Abdel Khalek of Bates College.

Osborne is the only unseeded player remaining in the men's draw, though he also swept both of his matches. After a win over Trinity's Karan Malik, he defeated sixth-seeded Chris Hanson of Dartmouth 13-11, 11-7, 11-4 to reach his first quarterfinal round.

Osborne's classmate, Samuel Kang, was in the hunt for one of the biggest upsets in tournament history. After a first-round win over Harvard's Gary Power, he pushed reigning champion Ali Farag of Harvard in four very close games before falling 3-1. The pair split the first two, and Farag followed with an 11-9 win. Kang got to 9-9 in the fourth, but Farag finished the match.

Junior Dylan Ward, playing in his first 'A' draw, lost to Brandon McLaughlin, the No. 2 player from Harvard.

Freshman Vivek Dinodia remains alive in the 'B' draw, and will face Harvard No. 6 player Tom Mullaney in the Round of 16.
