As his budding professional career gets underway with the Staten Island Yankees, former Princeton pitcher/first baseman Mike Ford collected another national honor, earning Louisville Slugger/CollegeBaseballInsider.com All-America Honorable Mention utility accolades.

“Louisville Slugger is proud to honor the incredible athletes that left their mark on the 2013 college baseball season,” said Kyle Schlegel, VP of Marketing for Louisville Slugger. “The feats of the players named for this year’s national awards and All-America teams were a great example of what it looks like when you lift your game to new levels. Congratulations from the Louisville Slugger team on these outstanding accomplishments.”

The 2013 Ivy League Player and Pitcher of the Year signed with the Yankees on July 16 and serves as the Staten Island affiliate’s designated hitter. Ford has seen action in 15 games, tallying 11 hits, six walks, five RBI, two home runs and a double. In his professional debut on Aug. 2, his first career hit was a home run.

Ford played at Princeton from 2011-13, foregoing his senior season to join the professional ranks. He concluded his Tiger career with a .299 batting average (132-for-442), recording 100 RBI, 78 runs, 72 walks, 22 doubles, 10 home runs and a pair of triples. Ford was also perfect in stolen base attempts, going 5-for-5.

Along with his .986 fielding and .403 on base percentages, the four-time All-Ivy selection owned a 15-8 record on the mound and a 2.83 ERA. Over 29 appearances, he amassed 28 starts, 14 complete games and two shutouts. The righty tossed 96 strikeouts over 184.2 innings.

A now three-time All-America, Ford had an unprecedented 2013 campaign. He was the first Tiger to be named a John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award finalist and a Gregg Olson Award semifinalist, along with earning an ABCA Northeast Region pitcher and All-Ivy League First Team honors. Ford is the only player in Ivy history to earn Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in a career and was the first to be named Player and Pitcher of the Year in the same season.
