For the Princeton baseball team, push is about to come to shove.

Starting Saturday in New York City and ending nine days later at Clarke Field, Princeton will play exactly 50% of its Ivy League schedule. When the final out is recorded a week from Sunday, Princeton figures ot have a reasonable idea of where it stands in the Gehrig Division race.

Princeton's run of 10 games in nine days begins this weekend, with doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Columbia. After that it's six straight at home, with two Wednesday against Harvard in the makeup games after the Crimson and Tigers were rained out two weekends ago and then four more at home against Penn next weekend.

A 20-game Ivy League season, half of which is now condensed into a very short stretch.

Princeton is currently 4-2 in the league, which leaves the Tigers looking up at Penn, who is off to a sizzling 8-0 start and who puts that perfect record on the line against Cornell this wekend in Philadelphia. Columbia and Cornell are both 5-3.

On the other side of the league, Yale - who swept Princeton last Sunday - is in first place in the Rolfe Division at 5-3, with no other team better than 2-6.

Princeton will send MIchael Fagan and Chad Powers to the mound Saturday and then Cameron Mingo and Keelan Smithers Sunday.

Fagan is 3-1 on the year with a 2.48 ERA. Mingo's ERA in his 13 innings in Ivy League games is 1.35.

Princeton is hitting .290 as a team in league games, second-best in the Ivy League. Columbia ranks third in pitching in the league with a 2.43 team ERA in its eight league games.
