The Princeton baseball team will conclude the regular season with a final four-game series versus Cornell (21-15, 9-7 Ivy). The home-away series begins Friday, Apr. 26 at Clarke Field, before heading to Ithaca, N.Y on Sunday to close things out. First pitch is set for 12 noon on both days.

Last Time Out: An early two-run lead was not enough to sustain the Tigers (12-26, 9-7 Ivy) versus Rider in their 8-6 loss on Apr. 24. The Broncs responded with six runs by the fifth inning to put the game nearly away, aside from a late comeback effort from Princeton in the ninth. Down 8-4, the Tigers rallied back with two runs but ultimately were unable to knot things up before conceding the final out.

A Look at the Columbia Series: The Tigers (12-25, 9-7 Ivy) added another level of complexity in their hopes of advancing to the Ivy League Championship Series, going 1-3 in a crucial series versus first-place Columbia last weekend. The Lions swept day one, before Princeton responded with a split to conclude the series.

The Tigers’ lone victory came behind a 2-0 shutout complete game victory from Mike Ford. The top hurler in the league, he scattered five hits and a walk, while striking out a pair in 29 batters faced.

The Ivy Race: Columbia separated itself with a 3-1 weekend versus the Tigers to put the Lions three games ahead of second-place Princeton and Cornell. In order for the Tigers to win the Gehrig Division they will need to sweep the Big Red this weekend and see a sweep from last place Penn versus Columbia.

Ford’s on Fire: Junior right-hander Mike Ford has commanded each of his starts throughout the Ivy schedule, winning all four outings to improve to 5-0 on the year. He owns league bests in ERA (1.00), opponent batting average (1.91) and innings pitched (54). Ford’s five wins ties him for second in the conference.

Scouting Cornell: The Big Red enter this weekend’s series at 21-15, 9-7 Ivy. Cornell is coming off a series victory over Penn, going 3-1 to remain in second place in the Gehrig Division. JD Whestel leads the offense with a team-best .306 batting average (38-for-124) with 25 runs, 12 RBI and 10 doubles. On the mound, the Big Red will see their three top hurlers in Zach McCulley (4-1), Brian McAfee (3-2) and Nick Buston (4-2) go this weekend. Buston leads the team in strikeouts with 31, while McCulley has a complete game shutout and a save under his belt.
