Zak Hermans threw five scoreless innings and the offense tallied 15 hits, as the Princeton baseball team opened up the 2012 campaign with an 11-4 victory on the road at Florida Atlantic Friday evening.

Hermans threw eight strikeouts in 18 batters faced, while only allowing two hits and one walk.

The Tigers jumped out early with a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, off a Mike Ford sacrifice fly down the left field line that brought home lead off batter Alec Keller.

After four scoreless frames, Matt Bowman hit an RBI double down the right field line and was brought home when John Mishu added a second consecutive Tiger double to take Princeton into the bottom half fifth with a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers' bats remained hot in the sixth as they added to their growing lead. Sam Mulroy led off with a single and Ryan Albert brought him home with a homer over the right field wall. It was the sophomore's second career long ball.

Albert went 2-for-4, behind three runs, a pair of RBI and a home run. Mulroy finished going 2-for-4, as well, with a pair of runs.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Makis came in the game for Princeton to take over duties on the rubber. He pitched three scoreless innings, behind five strikeouts in 11 batters faced.

Princeton continued to be productive at the plate the following inning. With two outs, Mulroy and Albert were both hit by pitches in consecutive at bats. Right fielder Steve Harrington then doubled to center field, bringing home a pair of runs to make it a 7-0 game.

Keller, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two runs, led off the eighth with a one-out triple to right center. He was quickly sent home off a Bowman single to the right side. In Princeton's final offensive opportunity of the night, Nate Baird blasted a three-run homer over the left field wall to highlight ninth inning action.

A.J. Goetz concluded the game for Princeton on the mound in the bottom half of the inning. FAU broke up the Tigers' shutout with four runs on one hit. The Owls had three hits in the game.

Princeton and Florida Atlantic faceoff in doubleheader action tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 3. Game one is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and game two is slated for approximately 4 p.m. The weekend series between the Tigers and Owls concludes with a lone game on Sunday.
